Practice Groups
We’re organised across a range of disciplines, most of which are interrelated. Any area will give you a valuable opportunity to learn alongside our highly experienced team of experts and provide exposure to the complex strategic issues faced by our clients. When you join us, you’ll work within one of these areas while collaborating with many of the others to provide a full service to our clients.
In all practice groups, we’re looking for people who are keen to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours that support our business strategy. Therefore, we expect you to be able to add value by thinking strategically about client issues and applying appropriate methodologies to resolve problems. You’ll need the flexibility to work well independently and in a team environment, as well as the capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously, deliver quality work and consistently meet deadlines. It goes without saying that excellent all round communication skills – verbal, written and listening – are essential too.
Our career paths fall into two main categories: actuarial consulting and general/non-actuarial consulting, though we also have roles more focused on research or administration & management.
If you are interested in being a consultant but don't want to train as an actuary, Investment Consulting (Manager Research or Client Consulting in particular), the Human Capital Group (HCG) or the Benefits Group (DC Consulting) are areas you should consider.
If, however, you would like to train as an actuary then you should focus on the Benefits Group (Actuarial Consulting), Insurance & Financial Services or Investment Consulting (you can pursue the actuarial qualification in any team but The Strategy Group spends the most time using mathematical modelling skills).
The main research roles are in Manager Research (part of Investment Consulting) or the The Pensions Technical Unit - PTU (part of the Benefits Group). Manager Research involves a significant element of external communication (with Fund Managers) where as the PTU role mainly involves internal communication.
Finally, if you enjoy administration, project management and people management, the Technology Administration Solutions (formerly known as Benefits Administration Solutions/BAS) practice is the place to look and you can find out more at www.watsonwyatt.com/enviablecareers
